it is an environment movement.
the main motive of Chipko movement is to prevent the cutting of trees and maintain traditional forest rights.
Chipko means embrace
it is happened in the 1970's in the Garhwal Himalayas of Uttarakhand.

chipko movement was started on 9 January , 1927
it is started by the sunderlal bhaghana ( a famous environmentalist )
later this is carried in 1973 by the people of
uttar pradesh
it is an non violent opposition of cutting of tress
in uttar pradesh the villagers hugged the tress to save them from cutting
