CHLORIDE SHIFT ::

➡It is know as hamburger phenomenon.

➡HCO3- ions diffuse out into plasma and cl- ions enter into the RBC at the level of tissues.

➡The above takes place during internal respiration.

➡ In reverse to this Cl- Ions move out as HCO3-

➡It is known as reverse chloride shift.

➡The above one takes place during external respiration.

➡The chloride shift is mainly responsible for the movement of bicarbonates.
