Chromosomes are the fibre-like thing present in the nucleus. The number of chromosomes is definite in each species. Every human body cell has 46 (23 pairs) chromosomes.
The chromosomes carry the genetic characters from the parents to offspring through the union of the egg of the female and the sperm of male.
Chromosomes are made of chromatin, which is composed of hereditary units called genes. Genes are made of a complex substance DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid).
