A disc shaped magnet have north and and south poles at the two flat faces of the disc shape. A ring shaped magnet have two flat faces (axially magnetic ring) as its poles or two semicircular halves (diametrically magnetic ring) as its poles.

To see the position of the poles, put iron fillings in an oil or water container and then hang the magnet with a thread and immerse it in the liquid. You will see in slightly slow motion that how iron fillings are attracted densely towards the pole parts of the magnet.

Once you now the position of the poles, it is easier to check N and S poles’ position.
