A coordinate axis is a two-dimensional number line.

For example:

  • It consists of two perpendicular number lines or axes.
  • The horizontal axis is called the x-axis or abscissa
  • and the vertical axis is called the y-axis or ordinate
  • The center of the coordinate system (where the x-axis and y-axis intersect) is called the origin.

Hope it helps you.
