IN PLANTS : their cells are polygonal in cross section and they have unevenly thickened walls .

actually this thickening of due to the presence of cellulose , hemicellulose and pectin

these are found in the dicot stem in two or more layers below the epidermis and also found in pedicel and petiole

but they are absent in roots.

function is is to provide strength and flexibility to the growing organs like the young stem

It is also called as living tissue

HEYA FRIEND HERE IS YOUR ANSWER:-

QUES)What is collenchyma?
Ans) tissue strengthened by the thickening of cell walls, as in young shoots.

QUES) where are they found?
Ans) These cells are oftenfound under the epidermis, or the outer layer of cells in young stems and in leaf veins.

QUES)Write their function?
Ans) The thickened walls of the collenchyma cells enable them to provide additional support to the areas where they are found. Most notably, collenchyma cells serve growing parts of the plant, such as shoots and leaves, both by providing support and by filling in vacant spaces that will be used for later growth.
