The main properties in mathematics are

  • Commutative
  • Closure
  • Distributive

Commutative: It states that the order of numbers in addition and multiplication does not matter. The end result will b the same.

If x and y are two numbers then according to the commutative property

x + y = y + x

x × y = y × x

The commutative property states that the numbers on which we operate can be moved or swapped from their position without making any difference to the answer. The property holds for Addition and Multiplication, but not for subtraction and division.

Formula of commouative property under addition:

a+b=b+a

ex:1+2=2+1

3 = 3

under multiplication:

b=a

=2×1=1×2

3=3

COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY HOLDS ONLY FOR ADDITION AND MULTIPLICATION, BUT NOT FOR SUBTRACTION OR DIVISION.
