It is a type of force which adds up to zero in a round trip.
For example, you have to do positive work in lifting a body from the earth's surface, but do not have to do any work to bring it back. This work is done by gravity in the opposite direction, i.e. work becomes negative and the resultant becomes zero.
In contrast, non-conservative forces do not become zero in a round trip. E.g. is friction. You have to do work in bringing a block from point A to B on the ground, but you also have to do the same amount of work in bringing it back from point B to A.
Hope this helps you. Good Luck!!!
