Constitution is a set of fundamental principles or established precedents according to which a state or other organization is governed.
Importance of the constitution arises out of the following reasons:
1. To delimit the power of the government as a whole and of its various organs such as executive, legislature and judiciary and to establish the rule of law and not the rule of man.
2. To provide against the encroachment on the individual’s right by the government.
3. To preserve the political institution against political whim or caprice.
4. To uphold the socio-political ideals of the community.
