Consumer protection act is established in to the legal and constitutional frame work during 1986.  This is done to protect the interests and rights of a customer regarding consumer goods and services.   The consumer has a right to access goods of different types, (choice of selection), freedom of selection,  right to information, right to use, right to complaint etc.

The Act allowed creation of suitable consumer forums, protection councils at district level, state level and country level.  It allows the handling complaints of customers in India to resolve the conflicts between the consumer and manufacturer or the supplier.  The disputes are resolved with priority given to legal and ethical  rights of consumers.    So the consumers cannot be exploited.
