many million years ago total earth was a single huge mass body called pangea. due to plate tectonics, internal forces,and for some other reasons pangea was divided into laurasia and gondwana. laurasia again divided into north america and eurasia. gondwana was again divided into south america, india, australia, madagascar,africa.this is called continental drift theory
