Hey friend;
Here is your answer:
Coordination no in solid state is also called ligancy, the number of atoms, ions, molecules that a central atom or ion holds as its nearest neighbours in complex or coordination compound or in a crystal. This is the term proposed by Werner to donate the total number of bonds from the ligands to the metal atom. In a unit cell, an atom's coordination no. is the number of atoms it is touching. The hexagonal closest packed has a coordination no of 12 and contains 6 atoms per unit cell . The face- centered has a coordination no of 12 and contains 4 atoms per unit cell.
Hope this will help.........................
