What is correct grammatically can i sit here or may i sit here?

As you're clearly asking for a permission, the latter is correct. Former sounds like you're going to sit, whatever the response may be.

mummy1312003: In this sentence we are asking permission to sit and while taking permission we should always be polite . Hence , the sentence "May I sit here is correct" .But grammatically both are correct sentences . "Can I sit here " could be used when we are asking any person of the same age group.

Grammatically , "May I sit here" is perfect because when we use this sentence , we usually politely ask for the permission to sit , So - "May I Sit here" is best where may describes polite request.
