A covalent bond, also called a molecular bond, is a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms. These electron pairs are known as shared pairs or bonding pairs, and the stable balance of attractive and repulsive forces between atoms, when they share electrons, is known as covalent bonding.

Ionic bonding is the complete transfer of valence electron(s) between atoms. It is a type of chemical bondthat generates two oppositely charged ions. In ionic bonds, the metal loses electrons to become a positively charged cation, whereas the nonmetal accepts those electrons to become a negatively charged anion.

COVALENT BONDS -

The chemical bond formed by the sharing of electrons between two atoms is known as a covalent bond. The sharing of electrons takes place in such a way that each atom in the resulting molecule gets a stable configuration.

A covalent bond is formed when both the reacting atoms need electrons to achieve a stable configuration. Usually, when a non-metal combines with another non-metal, sharing of electrons takes place between their atoms and a covalent bond is formed.

IONIC BOND -

A chemical bond formed between two ions with opposite charges. Ionic bonds form when one atom gives up one or more electrons to another atom. These bonds can form between a pair of atoms or between molecules and are the type of bond found in salts.

Basically, Covalent bond is Sharing of electrons and Ionic bond is Donation or Receiving of Electrons.
