What Is Crossing Over? give an example

nrgibson1: During this lining up, DNA sequences can be exchanged between the homologous chromosomes. This type of genetic recombination is called crossing over, and allows the daughter cells of meiosis to be genetically unique from one another. Crossing over can only occur between homologous chromosomes.

▶In other words we can say that, Crossing over is the interchanging process between two identical strands into which a chromosome splits during the mitosis.
It occurs in the first divison of mitosis and resulting in the new union of the daughter cells. At each stage chromosome has replicated into two strands called sister chromatids.

▶It also accounts for genetic variation, because due to the swapping of genetic material during crossing over, chromatids held together by the centromere are no longer identical.

✨EXAMPLES :-

As we all heard about dominant character and receiver in Heredity and Evolutions, Here are some examples for this :- Honey Bees, Fly and etc.

Blue, Grey, Brown, Pink and etc coloured eyes (r) and curled wings (c) are recessive, while red eyes (R) and straight wings (C) are dominant.

➡ FOR F1 GENERATION :- If there is any breeding mosquitoes/fly or etc with red eyes and straight wings is mated with another fly having pink eyes and curled wings, all the F1 hybrids are red eyeand straight winged in the F1 Generation.

➡ In F2 generation it consists of

▶ 49% ( red eyes and straight wings ),
▶ 49% (pink eyes and curled wings ),
▶ 1% ( red eyes and curled wings ) and ,
▶ 1% ( pink eyes and straight wings ).

✨( Above percentages has been given by the biologies experts by breed them )

→Crossing Over Is The Exchange Of Genetic Material Between Non-Sister Chromatids Of Homologous Chromosomes During Meiosis, Which Results In New Allelic Combinations In The Daughter Cells.

→As Definition,You Can Say,

◇In The Prophase Division Of Meiosis,Chromosomes Exchanges Their Genetic Materials Between Non-Sister Chromatids Of Homologous Chromosomes And Results In New Allelic Combinations In The Daughter Cells Is Known As Crossing Over.
