In physical cosmology and astronomy, dark energy is an unknown form of energy which is hypothesized to permeate all of space, tending to accelerate the expansion of the universe. Dark energy is about 68% of the total energy in the universe ....We don't know much about the dark energy...

❝ The universe is made up of 5 % matter, 25 % dark matter and 75 % dark energy. ❞

Dark energy is an invisible force or an invisible energy that is said to be affection the universe and making it larger.

It acts opposite to the gravitational force.

The scientists also predicted that this force may be joining the other four forces that are the electromagnetism, gravity, weak nuclear force and the strong nuclear force.

But the fact is we never experienced it, and so scientists say this a mysterious hidden energy.

Well, the scientists made the models to explain about the dark energy. They guessed that the dark energy which is responsible for expanding this universe may rip apart everything in this universe after billion years.

It is also sometimes called as the vacuum energy.

It was first discovered about many years ago, during the reasearches of supernovae- the exploding stars, that there is an existence of such a energy in the vaccum constant, that is responsible for the accelerated expansion of the universe.

Firstly, it was thought that the universe expanded at an constant rate, but after this observation, astrophysicists believe that there is an existence of such an energy.

Well, the real real nature of dark energy is still unknown to us.

It is really interesting to know that everything we experience in our lifetime is just the 5% of this universe.

Most of the universe is made of the dark energy. The other 25% I discussed above is made up of dark matter.

Most people think that dark energy is just the same as dark matter, but this is false.

Both the dark energy and dark matter are invisible, but both of them are not similar.

The astrophysicists believe that the gravitational effects cannot be believed just because of the theories. They believe that there must be some matter, which we are not able to see, and interacts with the matter (which we are able to see) via the gravitational force.

It is believed that the dark matter is not made by the particles that a normal matter is made up of. The dark matter is made or composed of such particles which do not emit light, absorb or even not reflect the light. This is the reason that we cannot see it.

The astrophysicists believe in the presence of dark matter because of the effect it has on objects that we can observe.

So, we can say that dark matter is is different from the dark energy.

But, both of them are a part of the universe.

Let's end with an interesting fact.

❝ It is believed that the dark matter is made up of predominal black holes. ❞
