When a substance break into its constituent elements on imparting heat, light, electric or any other type of energy is known as decomposition reaction.
Ex:
H²O ---------› H² + O²
Hope it helps ^_^

Hey There!
Decomposition Reaction :
The reaction in which only one reactant decomposes to form 2 or more products is termed as decomposition reaction.
Types :
1) Thermal Decomposition : using heat.
2) Photochemical Decomposition : using light.
3) Electrolytic Decomposition : using electricity.
Examples :
Thermal Decomposition : Pb(NO₃)₂ → PbO + NO₂ + O₂ (agent is heat)
Photochemical Decomposition : AgCl → Ag + Cl₂ (agent is sunlight)
Electrolytic Decomposition : H₂O → H₂ + O₂ (agent is electricity)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
