Those chemical reactions in which single substance split into two or more substance is called decomposition reaction.

eg :-- Caco3 --------> Cao + Co2

H2O -----------> H2 + O2...

A decomposition reaction is a type of chemical reaction in which a single compound breaks down into 2 or more elements or new compounds .

For example

1) Calcium carbonate decomposes in calcium oxides and carbon dioxide when heated .

2) When heated strongly potassium chlorate decomposes into potassium chloride and oxygen .
