Positively charged ion is called cation
Whereas negativity charged ion is called anion
when an ionic compounds get disassociate in water it gives cation and anion.
For eg-
when Nacl is dissolved in water
it gives na+ and cl- ion
where na+ is cation and cl- is anion.
