What is difference between american secularlism and indian secularism

In Unites States od America the state can never interfere with religion no matter the situation is.
But in India the state sometimes interferes with the religion if a religious practice becomes harmful for the society. For e.g. the government had to ban sati practice as a lot of women were killed meaninglessly.
