Expedited changes –changes that are required quickly due to a pressing need such as legal requirement or a business need but are not related to restoring service.

Emergency changes – changes that are required to restore service due to an incident or a change that needs to be implemented quickly in order to avoid one.

Answer:

An Expedited change-

It does not meet the normal change lead time requirement, but it is not an Emergency Change.

Emergency changes

These are used to immediately restore or repair a P1 Incident ("Service Alert") or situations where the impact to a service is imminent if no action is taken.

Explanation:

An Expedited change-

  • It follows the same process and approval flow as a 'Normal' Change, but with much shorter lead times and a reason for being expedited.
  • These modifications require Technical, Business, and CAB approval.
  • It is the Change Owner's (Assigned to) responsibility to shepherd the change through the approval process.

Emergency changes

  • Because of the speed with which they must be implemented and authorised, these changes do not go through the entire lifecycle of a normal change.
  • After the fact, emergency changes are formally raised/recorded, reviewed, and approved.
  • Example- Unless a change is made, the service is down or will experience an outage.

Hence, we can conclude that all emergency changes are expedite change but all expedite changes are not emergency change.
