Gondwana coalfields are the coalfields that are 250 million years old. they have good quality coal of  Anthracite and Bituminous. more than 98% of the coal found in India is in Gondwana coalfields. e.g.- Jharia mines (Jharkhand), Ranigunj (W Bengal)

Tertiary coalfields are new coalfields around 50 million years old. They have poor grade coal like Peat and Lignite. e.g.- Neyveli (Tamil Nadu), Namchik (Arunachal Pradesh)

hope it helps you!!!!
