Transverse wave :- The particles of the medium oscillation perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the wave r called transverse wave.
Longitudinal waves :- The particles of medium oscillation in the direction of the propagation of the wave r called longitudinal wave.

In a longitudinal wave, the direction of displacement of particles is parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave. Example - sound wave.
