The difference between pervious and impervious rocks lies in their ability to percolate water.

Pervious rocks:

  • Rocks are those which allow the passage of water between them.
  • Pervious is also known as permeable rocks not porous. Because these have got connected spaces that support percolation of water through the surface.
  • Thus, a pervious rock helps comparatively in reducing environmental impact.

Impervious rocks:

  • Rocks are those which do not resist the flow of water between them.
  • The forces water to run off the drainage or waterways too quickly that can ultimately lead to flooding along with a lot of debris into the following streams.
