speed is a scalar quantity while velocity is a vector quantiy
speed=distance/time
velocity=displacement/time

Speed is the rate of distance moved with respect to time.
It is a scalar quantity (ie) it has magnitude only

Velocity is the rate of change of position with respect to time.
It is a vector quantity (ie) it has both direction and magnitude
