the main difference between them is
Thomson
he could not explain stability of electron
he called model similar to the apple pie
the model explained that electrons are fully spread over the protons to explain the neutrality of atom
this could not explain it
Rutherford
he explained that there is a nucleus in between
the protons lie in middle in nucleus
the electrons are spread at such a wide distance that is equivalent to the cricket ball kept in between the stadium
he was able to reach to dense nucleus in between but at the same time could not explain the stability
Thomson could not give the correct set up thus objected by rutherford
