Rutherford said that an atom has electrons scattered all inside with a central nucleus having positive charfe...most of the space inside is vacant which he proved by the alpha scattering experiment...thoma s just said that the atom is like a water mellon with subatomic particles lsike the seeds and the edible part as electrons

Thomas model gave only simple type of atomic model which conclude only that all electron are seed of watermelon which is hypothetical concept and later is denied. Than Rutherford model is not as hypothetical as Thomas model and he performed experiment and gave formula according to observation. He is one who tell that atom has empty space and there is positive charge particle present called nucleus.
