Mass is the amount of matter in an object

Weight is a body's relative mass or the quantity of matter contained by it, giving rise to a downward force; the heaviness of a person or thing.

There is a basic difference because mass is the actual amount of material contained in a body and is measured in kg,gm,etc.

Weight is the force exerted by the gravity on that object mg. Note that mass is independent of everything by weight is different on the earth,moon,etc.
