what is digestion ? describe with diagram
Answers
Digestion is the breakdown of large insoluble food molecules into small water-soluble food molecules so that they can be absorbed into the watery blood plasma. In certain organisms, these smaller substances are absorbed through the small intestine into the blood stream.
After you eat, it takes about six to eight hours for food to pass through your stomach and small intestine.
The digestive processes are ingestion, propulsion, mechanical digestion, chemical digestion, absorption, and defecation. Some chemical digestion occurs in the mouth. Some absorption can occur in the mouth and stomach, for example, alcohol and aspirin.
Answer;
Digestion is the process of breaking down of complex materials into smaller molecules.
The digestive system consists of the following parts;
1. Esophagus
2. Liver
3. Stomach
4. Gall Bladder
5. Pancreas
6. Small Intestine
7. Large Intestine
8. Anus
The esophagus acts as an pathway for food between the mouth and the stomach. The food eaten goes to the stomach with the help of esophagus. The stomach digests the food ( the meaning of digestion is explained above ). The nutrient from the food are absorbed and the waste material is excreted out by the anus after coming out of the large intestine.
