the breaking down of complex food into simple with the help of enzymes in the presence of oxygen is known as digestion. animals required digestive system because they intake food in while plants do not take food in they produce food.

Digestion is the process of breaking down of complex insoluble food components into simple soluble substances.
Animals do need digestive system because they can't make their own food like plants so when they eat their food from other sources, they need a system to break all the food and be given all the nutrients they need.
