Coefficient of viscosity is defined as tangential force required to maintain a unit velocity gradient between two parallel layers of liquid of unit area. Mathematically, Coefficient of viscosity (η)= Fr/Av ——- F= tangential Force, Area, r= distance between the layers, v= velocity.
