Molecules in which the no of electrons present is odd are called odd elctron molecules . In these molecules while writing there lewis structure an electron is left alone and the odd electron systems are generally found in nature of those of nitrogen ie no2. Also most of the odd electon systems exist in nature as dimers.

One class of such compounds are those that have an odd number of electrons. As the octet rule requires eight electrons around each atom, a molecule with an odd number of electrons must disobey the octet rule. Molecules with unpaired electrons are termed 'free radicals.'
