Dimerisation term is directly belongs to chemistry. It contains to similar monomers.
It is joined with specific chemical bonds. They can be either weak or strong. When the compounds formed by combination two molecules which are like i.e. same.
For example, nitrogen tetroxide N2O4 is the dimer of nitrogen dioxide NO2.
