In diplospory (also called generative apospory), the megagametophyte arises from a cell of the archesporium. In apospory (also called somatic apospory), the megagametophyte arises from some other nucellus cell.

Diplospory is considered as a gametophytic apomixes where the female gametophyte or the mega gametophyte develops from a sporangium.

Apomixis is a process of replacing the sexual reproduction that occurs in the plants with asexual reproduction in the case of unfavourable conditions or for commercial benefits.

This method is more successful in angiosperms, although it is said to be possible in gymnosperms theoretically, even it is not practically proved using experiments.
