Direct speech describes when something is being repeated exactly as it was – usually in between a pair of inverted commas.

Indirect speech will still share the same information – but instead of expressing someone's comments or speech by directly repeating them, it involves reporting or describing what was said...

hope it will help you.......

Explanation:

  • When a question indirect speech is changed into reported speech, the verb becomes a past tense interrogative word.

  • The statement in reported speech will also contain the original question word. (where, what, how, when, why)

  • Eg: He said, " How long will you take, Sharanya?"

  • → He asked for long Sharanya would take.

  • When we report statements, we use reporting verbs such as said, told, answered , commanded , stated and mentioned, and the conjunction that to introduce the statement.

  • Eg: " I have been teaching for twelve years."

  • → She stated that she had been teaching for twelve years.

  • Sometimes opinions can be introduced by past forms of words such as believe, think and suppose.

  • Eg: "I think Munnar is colder than Mysuru. "

  • He thought that Munnar was colder than Mysuru.

  • Or, He thought that it was colder in Munnar than in Mysuru.
