Direct speech describes when something is being repeated exactly as it was – usually in between a pair of inverted commas.
Indirect speech will still share the same information – but instead of expressing someone's comments or speech by directly repeating them, it involves reporting or describing what was said...

Explanation:
- When a question indirect speech is changed into reported speech, the verb becomes a past tense interrogative word.
- The statement in reported speech will also contain the original question word. (where, what, how, when, why)
- Eg: He said, " How long will you take, Sharanya?"
- → He asked for long Sharanya would take.
- When we report statements, we use reporting verbs such as said, told, answered , commanded , stated and mentioned, and the conjunction that to introduce the statement.
- Eg: " I have been teaching for twelve years."
- → She stated that she had been teaching for twelve years.
- Sometimes opinions can be introduced by past forms of words such as believe, think and suppose.
- Eg: "I think Munnar is colder than Mysuru. "
- → He thought that Munnar was colder than Mysuru.
- Or, He thought that it was colder in Munnar than in Mysuru.
