Dispersion of light can be described as the scattering of light.

The splitting of white light when it passes through a prism is referred to as dispersion of light.
The seven colours to which the white light is dispersed are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.
Dispersion of light is caused by the change of speed of light ray (resulting in angle of deviation) of each wavelength by a different amount.
