DISPLACEMENT: Distance of final position from initial position, i.e the shortest distance between a path.

Displacement= Final position-initial position

What is difference between distance and displacement?
Distance is the total length of path covered by the body,where as displacement is the shortest distance from initial position to the final position.

Example:
1#.If a body makes a complete circular path, initial position and final position is same hence displacement  is zero. while the distance is 2πr.

2#.If a body moves 5 km straight and come back to initial position,displacement is zero ,but distance is 10 km.

NOTE: Distance and displacement are not same, but can be same is certain motion.

Displacement

  • The distance between both the final state and the initial state, i.e. the least distance between these two points on a path.
  • Distance is the overall length of the path traveled by the body however, displacement is the smallest distance between the initial and end positions.
  • Displacement is defined as the difference between the final location and the initial position.
