suppose an object goes from a to b and then to c and finally comes back to a... suppose if the distance between a to b is 5 km and b and c is also 5km then the distance will be
5 + 5+ 5 + 5 which is 20 km...
so distance is the length of the actual path taken by the object
in the same example the displacement would be 0....
so displacement can be defined as the length of the shortest path taken by the object from 1 point to another...
hope it helps
