the total distance between initial and final position is called displacement . it is a vector quantity because it has magnitude as well as direction .
the quantity which has only magnitude no specific direction is called scalar quantity for example distance speed
the quantity which has magnitude as well as direction is called vector quantity for example displacement velocity

The shortest distance covered by an object is called displacement. Or the distance covered from the initial point to thefinal point of the object is called displacement.scalar quantity is a unit in which magnitude/direction isnot included whereas it isincluded in vector quantities.force is a vector quantity .speed is scalar quantity.hope it helps!!!
