Dissent means to disagree or to oppose.
Sometimes, peopleprotest against laws which violate thier freedom.Dissent is important because it is people's voice against unfair rules.
The salt satyagrah is a good example of it.
The Salt Satyagrah :
In 1929 , Gandhiji decided to launch the civil disobedience movement by protesting against the salt tax which had been imposed by the British government in 1882. The Salt law gave British a monopoly on the collection one manufacture of salt. Violation of law was criminal offence. The government imposed a tax on salt which affected every member of society. Gandhiji choses to break that law in a symbolic campaign because salt is basic nessecity of life.
