Hi friend..

when the lithographic plates are in motion will collide with each other and some times divet from each other... when they devit from each other they are known as divergent plate boundaries..

The divergent plate boundaries are also knows as constructive plate boundaries..

..Mid Atlantic ridge... These ridge was mainly formed due to the divergence of America plate and Eurasian plate, African plates.

Here the and American plate is moving towards west where as Eurasia and Africa plates are moving towards east due to this divergence of plates the earth crust was broken and from which eruption of magma taken place. after some time period these magma was solidified and formed as a ridge which is known as a mid Atlantic ridge...

hope it helps you....

In plate tectonics, a divergent plate boundary is a linear feature that exists between two tectonic plates that are moving away from each other. Divergent boundaries within continents initially produces rifts which eventually become rift valleys. Most active divergent plate boundaries occur between oceanic plates and exist as mid-oceanic ranges. Divergent plate boundary is also known as constructive boundary or an extensional boundary.

In the middle of the Atlantic, a vast underwater mountain range rises from the ocean floor, and extends almost the entire length of the ocean. This submarine Mid-Atlantic Ridge owes its formation to the movement of the continental plates on either side of the ocean. As these plates slowly separate, they leave gaps in earth's crust. This allows molten rock from beneath the earth's crust to reach the surface, forming a new part of the ocean floor. As the molten rock seeps through the gap at some pressure, it spews upward, forming a ridge. The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is so tall that it actually rises above sea level in many places, forming volcanic islands.
