doctrine of lapse is policy followed by Britishers and lord dalhousie used this policy to capture Indian state. Jhansi and Udaypur are such cities.

Like the policy of Subsidiary Alliance, the Doctrine of Lapse was also introduced. The doctrine of lapse clearly stated that a dependent/ subsidiary state would pass into the British hands if the ruler died without a natural successor.
