The process that involves in the combination of two male gametes (Sperms) with one female gametophyte (Embryo sac) is called Double fertilisation. This reproduction process is known as a complex reproduction process in plants.

Nawaschin discovered double fertilisation in 1898 in the liliaceous plants.

Advantage of double fertilisation is Energy conservation. In this type of reproduction the plant will start to spend energy on an endosperm after it get fertilised by the sperm cells. This type of character will save lot of energy to the plant.
