Down's syndrome is a genetic disorder that gives rise to developmental delays and physical disabilities. In India, it is a rare disorder, less than one million suffering from it. DS or DNS, as it is referred to as, is also known as trisomy 21; it is caused by the presence of all or part of a third copy of chromosome 21. The parents of an affected individual are generally genetically normal, the occurrence is therfore by chance.  The symptoms of a patient suffering from Down's syndrome are delays in physical growth, mild to moderate intellectual disability and characteristic facial features.
