Mycorrhiza is the a is the association of fungi with the roots of higher plants. It is of two types ectomycorrhizal roots and endomycorrhizal roots . In ectomycorrhiza the fungus can only have access to the intercellular region of the roots. They cannot enter the cell. They benefit plant in a number of ways:
(1) they increase the surface area of absorption.
(2) they increase the N2 and mineral supply to the roots of plant and help the plant to grow.
There are some plants like pinus that show stunned growth , if there roots are not asociated with mycorrhiza....
