Due to loss or gain of heat energy a number of changes in material as well as in living bodies are observed some of these changes have been discussed below:

Change in temperature
change in dimensions
change in state
change in chemical
biological change

Heat produces mainly the following three effects :

⭐Change in temperature

It depends on

1) Quantity of heat imparted to or rejected from the body

2) Material of the body

⭐Change in the state

Matter exists in three different states solid, liquid and gas.

The absorbed during the change of state is called latent heat .

This heat when expressed for unit mass of a substance is called specific latent heat.

⭐Change in size

When a body is heated, it expands and upon cooling it contracts.

This change in size of the body due to heating is called thermal expansion .

The reason is that on heating a substance the average intermolecular separation between the molecules increases, while on cooling it decreases.
