Electric motor is a device that converts electrical energy (electromotive force) in an electric circuit into mechanical rotational energy of a shaft (rotor).  The principle is that there is an electromagnetic force on a current carrying conductor in a varying magnetic field.

There is a permanent magnetic field (N S) in which an armature coil rotates due to the force. The rotor on which the armature is present, rotates due to that force.
