Electric Polarization is the relative shift of positive and negative Electric Charge in opposite direction.

when an electric field distorts the negative cloud of electrons around positive atomic nuclei in a direction opposite the field ,then the separation of charges makes one side of the atom positive and the opposite side  negative and this causes polarization

It is the amount of dipole moment per unit volume of the material

= p/V

Polarization density

DescriptionIn classical electromagnetism, polarization density is the vector field that expresses the density of permanent or induced electric dipole moments in a dielectric material. When a dielectric is placed in an external electric field, its molecules gain electric dipole moment and the dielectric is said to be polarized.
