Electromotive force, also called emf(denoted and measured in volts), is the voltage developed by any source of electrical energy such as a battery or dynamo.

HEY MATE HERE IS YOUR ANSWER:-

It is actually not a force but us equal to work done per unit charge by a cell in taking the change from one terminal to other. when no current flows the e.m.f of the source is exactly equal to the potential difference between its ends. The S.I unit of e.m.f is same as that of the potential.
