Hello...

Electrolysis is the decomposition of a chemical compund[electrolyt]……int the aqueous or fused/molten state by the passage of a direct electric current resulting in discharge of ions as neutral atoms at the respective electrodes.

for elctrolysis of water, platinum elctrodes arre used and a few drops of dil H2so4 is added to it

at cathode

H+ + e=H

4H=2H2. so hydrogen is evolved

at anode

OH- - e=OH

4OH=2H2o + O2. so oxygen is evolved

plz mark brainliest if it helps

Explanation:

1/2 O2(g) + H2O(l) + 2 e− Combining either half reaction pair yields the same overall decomposition of water into oxygen and hydrogen: Overall reaction: 2 H2O(l) → 2 H2(g) + O2(g) The number of hydrogen molecules produced is thus twice the number of oxygen molecules.
